EARLY on Tuesday morning, in the respectable, middle-class suburb of Malvern East, police paid a visit to an unsuspecting 61-year-old man. At the bleary-eyed hour of 7am, the police knocked, showed their search warrant and entered.
They quickly found what they were looking for - a prized painting by one of Australia's finest artists, Rupert Bunny, stolen 19 years earlier from a house in the seaside town of Blairgowrie, on the Mornington Peninsula. The painting was as bright and cheery as its trajectory had been murky.
